Whales and Nails

The Whales

Whales and Nails' projects include studying whales in the ocean and in the genetics lab, educating people about whale issues, and articulating whale skeletons for museums and educational institutions.

The Nails

Whales and Nails also specializes in custom building, marine contracting, fabrication, and restoration. Off-shore-island carpentry, projects with difficult logistics, and one-off, custom projects are typical for us.

The Person

Dan DenDanto has been cleaning, articulating and restoring whale skeletons since 1990. He creates exhibits which convey more about the animals’ lives than their deaths. Dan’s knowledge of whale anatomy and extensive experience in the field contribute to his extraordinary ability to display the remains of these magnificent creatures.

The Research

Dan DenDanto is the Director of the Fin Whale Catalog and a Senior Scientist at Allied Whale, a Research Associate at College of the Atlantic, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of CETOS Research Organization. The research Dan has been involved in includes the genetics, life history, population, phylogenetics and culture of whales in the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The Art

Custom and traveling whale-themed art exhibits are another specialty of Whales and Nails.
